IRISH TEENAGER ALLEN FINISHES FIFTH IN NETHERLANDS FIVE STAR GRAND
PRIX
WEXFORD teenager Bertram Allen today (Sunday) finished fifth in the
five-star Grand Prix at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands after a gruelling
contest that saw some of the world’s top riders fail to qualify for the
jump-off.
With only five combinations going through to the final round
from a starting field of 38, 18 year-old Allen produced a foot-perfect opening
performance with Ballywalter Farms’s grey mare Molly Malone V, but faulted twice
in the jump-off to finish fifth overall with prize money of 24,500
euro.
The 87,500 euro first prize went to France’s Kevin Staut and the
mare Silvana HDC, who delivered one of just three double clear rounds in the
high-profile competition.
Earlier today at the Dutch venue, Antrim’s
Jessica Kurten took victory in the Accumulator competition aboard Vdl Stud’s
chestnut stallion Arezzo VDL, with Tipperary’s Denis Lynch finishing sixth with
Gestüt Lewitz’s mare Coulisa.
In Eventing, Ireland’s Aoife Clark finished
sixth of 92 starters at the two-star competition in Fontainebleau, France,
riding the Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Adventure. The three-day event was won by
Germany’s Michael Jung and La Biosthetique Sam.
