LYNCH WINS GERMAN GRAND PRIX QUALIFIER
TIPPERARY’S Denis Lynch showed a return to top form tonight (Friday) at the four star show at Braunschweig in Germany with a win in the Grand Prix Qualifier.
Riding Thomas Straumann’s bay gelding Abbervail van het Dingeshof, whose last victory was a jump-off class three weeks ago ago in Sweden, Lynch came home tonight exactly one second ahead of Dutch rider Leopold van Asten and the dark bay gelding VDL Groep Zidane, collecting 8,750 euro for his win.
The Braunschweig Grand Prix takes place on Sunday afternoon.
Another Irish win came up tonight in Ocala, Florida, where Olympic Bronze Medallist Cian O’Connor piloted Adena Springs’s Quidam’s Cherie to first place in the two-star Welcome Speed Stakes. O’Connor had two thirds of a second in hand over Venezuela’s Angel Karolyi and Venus at the finish.
Meanwhile in Spain, Irish Army rider Capt. Michael Kelly, who clocked up three wins at the Spanish Sunshine Tour venue of Vejer de la Frontera last week, today had a second place in the three star speed competition on the Irish Sport Horse Drumiller Lough. The class was won by Britain’s Guy Williams and Golddigger.
