In what was a new initiative in this year’s H.S.I/Connolly’s RED MILLS Spring Tour, the Castlefield Sport Horse Section for the leading 7&8 year old horse of the series saw Co Armagh’s Conor McEneaney and Moonlite Cavalier record a comprehensive victory, having recorded no less than five double clear rounds.

  The pairing also scored an outright win in the Killossery round of the series and also finished as runners up at Kildare International and Portmore

 Moonlite Cavalier is an eight year old bay stallion by the sire Cavalier Royale and Conor McEneaney who is trained by Johnny O Connell, is just eighteen years old.

 Speaking afterwards he said

“I am really delighted to win the Castlefield Sport Horse league, Moonlite Cavalier has been very consistent, particularly in the early part of the series, he did tire a bit in the later rounds but he has come on so much this year because of this league. I would like to say a big thank you to Ger O Neill for putting up such a generous prize fund”.

 When asked about his plans for the remainder of the season Conor McEneaney said, “I will be aiming at qualifying for the Young Rider 1m40 class at the RDS and maybe I will jump one or two rounds of the National Grand Prix league and then the Autumn Grand Prix league too”.

 The Castlefield Sport Horse section of the tour was sponsored by leading Irish show jumper Ger O’Neill, with a very generous €2,000 on offer. Following the competition Ger O Neill said,

  “I would like to congratulate Conor McEneaney on winning the Castlefield Sport Horse league, It is a tremendous achievement particularly as he is just eighteen years old. I am delighted how the league turned out, it is good to see young horses being rewarded for jumping double clear rounds. We might make a few small changes to the rules next year but overall it has been a great success”

 Co Galway’s Thomas O Brien finished as runner up with another stallion, the seven year old Hector Van D’Abdijhoeve (Cabrio Van De Heffinck x  Utrillo Van De Heffinck).
