All Roads Lead to Maryville
Vincent Byrne in Spring Tour at Wexford Eq |
After 15 legs of the Connollys Red Mills & The Showjumper Club Spring tour the action comes to an end at this weekend’s event in Maryville, Co. Cork. The Spring Tour attracted large numbers this year helping Irish Riders prepare for the upcoming season. The league appealed to young riders and seasoned professionals alike.
The Young horse 7 & 8 year old section sponsored by Gerard O’Neills Castlefield Sporthorses is hotly contested approaching the final leg with BVS Echo Island currently in first place followed by Liam O’Meara’s Curraghgraigue Jack Take Fligh holding second place. Riders are competing for 2000 euro. 1st 1000, 2nd 700, 3rd 300 with the winning horse receiving a rug and a trophy.
BVS Echo Island has shown particular form with young rider Christopher Connell who is also in the running for top placed young rider. He is currently in pole position to take the top young rider of the league with a prize of a Bursary to Comdt. Gerry Flynn. Connell is followed closely by Conan Wright and Mikey Pender.
The Overall league has displayed a repeat of last year’s rivalry between Liam O’Meara and John Floody with Liam currently on top. All can change this weekend at the final in Maryville. We look forward to seeing you all there for this weeks action.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: RED MILLS & Showjumper’s Club.  The Tour is supported by Castlefield Sport Horses, Showjumping Ireland, Comdt. Gerry Flynn.
