TIPPERARY’S
Denis Lynch was narrowly beaten into second place in this afternoon’s Grand Prix
at Braunschweig in Germany, but collected 15,000 euro for his runner-up
spot.
A classy opening clear round on Thomas Straumann’s 14 year-old
gelding Abbervail van het Dingeshof saw Lynch one of 12 to make it through to
the jump-off in the four-star class, and in the second round he held the lead
until second-last to jump – Germany’s Philipp Weishaupt and the stallion Tabea –
managed to shave just over a second off the Irish rider’s time to claim the
first prize of a Volkswagen 4×4.
Third was Jeroen Dubbledam from the
Netherlands, who rode Zenith SFN to an 11,000 euro place.
